CARROLL AREA TRAP
In coordination with the IOWA DNR and Boy Scouts of America welcomes High School aged participants from Carroll County to join in the local Scholastic Clay Target Program ( SCTP). Safety will be the #1 priority.
Throughout this program our goal will be to promote safe gun handling behaviors, self discipline, and personal ethics, help each participant improve their skills on the range and have fun.
Our facility includes a meeting room, two ATA trap ranges and a 3rd trap / 5 Stand Sporting Clay skeet range under
construction.
We abide by the safety rules and regulations that govern the program. ( For example: only one shell is allowed in a gun at a time, we emphasize muzzle control and the barrel is always pointed down, gun cases are left in the vehicles and guns are carried directly to the gun racks with chambers open at all times.
We will practice as ONE organization compiled of different teams from different schools to compete in meets at our home facility and other clubs. Even though we are from different towns and schools in the end we will be ONE group that supports our teammates, encourages our teammates and provides respect for ALL in the club whether being fellow participants, volunteers, spectators and coaches. Respect for others and the facility is mandatory. Anyone showing any aggression toward others or disrespect will be asked to leave the practice or meet. A second instance will allow the person to leave the team indefinitely.
We plan to have one or two practice sessions during the week and one or two practice sessions on the weekend ( depending on the amount of participation). We have lesson plans created to cover safety, gun fit, eye dominance, the various fundamentals of the sport, rules, scoring….. There will be class room time as well as range time. There will be quizzes on items covered in the class room as well as the range.
Range time will consist of explaining the proper fundamentals, handling soft angles, hard angles, oscillating throwers and so on. At the end of each range session we will try incorporate mini competitions among the participants to keep it interesting and fun.
Participants must provide a usable 12 or 20 ga shotgun (12 ga preferred), ear protection, eye protection, shell pouch or vest and a duffle bag for equipment.
A minimum of 4 practices must be attended to participate in meets at other clubs (highly recommend attending the first weeks practices for gun fit and eye dominance and as many other practices as possible.) A minimum of 6 practices and 4 meets must be attended to compete at the state meet.
